About the Pastor

Pastor James W. Cox Jr., as a ministerial servant of the Lord, vision and message is relevant: “To change society one must commit to uplifting those who are down and out,” and for 34 years, he has been committed to the transformation of individual’s lives one person at a time.

Pastor Cox is married to Adela Jeffers-Cox who is an Assistant Principal in the Dallas Independent School District. They are the parents of three beautiful children Karin Cox, a graduate of Oakwood University, Krystal Cox, a student at The Ohio State University, and James W. Cox III, a student at Jackson State University.

As a preacher of the gospel, he has served in the ministry from East to West Texas. Just as God gave the Apostle Paul the gift, strength and power for establishing and growing churches, Pastor Cox has these same abilities which can be seen in the mighty monuments, to the cause of God, in such areas as Texarkana and Houston Texas.

One of his greatest achievements was to educate and allow members to understand and fully utilize their gifts in ministries which not only impact the church, but the community as well.

During his years of service Forth Worth, Texas, Grace Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church became one of the largest churches in the city. His style of progressive, Bible–Based preaching reached not only the Forth Worth community but thousands of people throughout North America and Africa.

Pastor Cox is the developer of the Community Wide Preach Out.  This organization, now in its 21st year, is responsible for bringing together all religious denominations, under one roof, united in serving the Lord. A dedicated believer in community involvement Pastor Cox was the first Seventh Day Adventist pastor to be named “Pastor of the Year” in 2004 in Forth Worth, Texas. In 2006 he became the first Adventist Preacher to be ordained as a Bishop with all rights and privileges under the umbrella of Bishop Ron Mays founder of the Charity Church in Forth Worth, Texas.

Pastor Cox is the founder of Breaking Chains Ministries, where the mission is to free the hopeless and rescue the perishing. He is also a co-partner with Bishop Ron Mays, who for the past fifteen years has given away millions of dollars in merchandise during the Christmas holidays called “Coats for Kids”. No other congregation has impacted the community to such a vast extent.

Pastor Cox continues his ministry, today, at the Faith Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church in Dallas, Texas. In the two years of his pastorate, he has utilized a combination of new and well proven strategies to empower and impact the membership. The church currently has 25 ministries that free the downtrodden, equip the masses and exalt Jesus Christ. Worship services are held in a recently remodeled facility beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturdays. Two corporate Bibles studies are faithfully attended during the Saturday services. The various church ministries are developing concentrated areas to expand its membership. Faith Temple is proud to have in place an Overcomers class to better equip and free individuals from the bondage of drugs and other addictions.

With a gift of relating to young people, Pastor Cox has taken steps toward reaching the younger community and disenfranchised that have been turned off by traditional worship and require a more contemporary method of receiving the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His out-of-the-box approach with media, empowering preaching, and teaching style has made him one of the most respected pastors of this generation in Adventism as well as the communities in which he serves.
